Stellantis: Courage and Vision for the Future – Coffee Break La7

Stellantis: Courage and Vision for the Future

Ecological Transition and Industrial Policies

The ecological transition from combustion engines to green technology cannot be driven by ideologies but by strategic visions. Italy cannot blame Europe, considering we are the country with the highest number of officials in Brussels, over 14,000. Yet, many reforms, such as those tied to the Green Deal, have not protected our interests. Commissioner Tajani was a positive example, successfully creating a system for Italy. But before and after him, there was nothing.

Regarding Stellantis and the automotive industry’s crisis, I highlighted how the company focused on the USA and financial strategies, neglecting competitive products. It is crucial to distinguish Stellantis from the automotive sector and assess whether it is worth investing in it or redirecting resources to the automotive components sector and SMEs, focusing on exports and our strengths, such as Ferrari. Courage and targeted industrial policies are needed.

Syria and the Middle East

As a liberal, I prefer reforms over revolutions. Syria is no longer under a brutal dictatorship but remains unstable. Who will govern now? This uncertainty could favor Israel, which sought stability in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords, but it poses a challenge for Europe, still unprepared to handle such crises.

European Defense and the Role of the USA

The USA has effectively turned military spending into strategic investments through ‘dual-use’ economics, channeling funds into key areas such as healthcare and education. Europe must follow this path by building a transparent and strategic deterrence system that strengthens our values and reinvests in growth.
Increasing defense spending without a clear vision makes no sense. Transparency and a European strategy are essential to ensure security and progress.
