It is with great excitement that I reflect on having had the honor of hosting the 2nd Sustainable Vegetable Oils Conference (SVOC). It took place in the energetic city of Mumbai under the prestigious G20 framework!
This event marked a significant continuation of a journey initiated last year in the beautiful setting of Bali.
The inception of this conference was fueled by a straightforward yet compelling idea. Uniting oil producers across the globe to navigate the uncertainties of our times and collectively tackle the imperative challenge of food security.
Our endeavor was not just a response to immediate crises. It was also a proactive approach towards crafting a resilient and sustainable future in the face of the ‘Age of Uncertainty’. This era, characterized by unpredictable changes and challenges, demands robust and sustainable supply chains more than ever.
Navigating Uncertainty
In my opening address at the conference, I emphasized the pressing need for resilience as we navigate through multidimensional uncertainties – be it economic, environmental, or health-related. The production and consumption of vegetable oils, including palm, soy, and sunflower oil, affect the lives of billions, influencing economies, food systems, and the environment globally. Addressing the crowd, I remarked:
